Year of the Horse
From Wikipedia- “Chinese New Year is an important traditional Chinese holiday celebrated at the turn of the Chinese calendar. In China, it is also known as theSpring Festival, the literal translation of the modern Chinese name. Chinese New Year celebrations traditionally run from Chinese New Year’s Eve, the last day of the last month of the Chinese calendar, to the Lantern Festival on the 15th day of the first month, making the festival the longest in the Chinese calendar. Because the Chinese calendar is lunisolar, the Chinese New Year is often referred to as the “Lunar New Year“.

Struggles: usually at this time of the year, Chinese all around would pray to the buddhas and light incense, burning paper money as an offering. When i was younger, i used to join in for the fun of it. but as i got older and started believing in Christ it got harder to try and avoid. i remember i would hide in the toilet pretending i had a very….very bad stomach ache ;} Of course eventually my mom understood what was going on so it got kinder easier to avoid these things.
Though i have a feeling at one time she had thought i was just ‘entering my teenage phase’ where children just get lazy and not do those things. With my grandmother in the house now, she is constantly lighting these incense around the house…i worry what i should do as a Christian. Im cautious of what food i can eat, whether it had been ‘offered’ yet.
Many would think…if these things arent real why would it matter if you eat it or not? (i got this question ALOT from my siblings)
the truth….it IS real. offerings to buddhas are like offerings to the evil spirit.. it has been tainted and why cant we just pray them off? i honestly am not sure but in MY point of view, id rather not eat it at all…and so well, i dont have clear explanation but its not like its HARD to avoid this. its only a small portion of these foods being offered. Any Christians there care to give me an explanation though? Ive always known it was not safe to eat it and i dont have problems avoiding so, i only want an explanation i can give to those who ask.
